Bible Readings at Home: Please read through the Book of James with your child through the months of January and February. James is so rich with messages from God on how to live the Christian Life. Today's lesson focused on James 5:1-6, Warning to the Rich.

Today we learned that we are to give our best to God. What does that mean? It means to give Him the best of everything - our time, our talents & gifts, our money (tithes & offerings), and ourselves. Sometimes our best may seem insignificant in the eyes of the world. Sometimes our best may never be noticed by others. However, in both of these cases, God notices and blesses those who honor Him in this way! Giving of our best to God honors Him. Doing our best for God in all circumstances honors Him. To do otherwise dishonors Him.

Encourage your child to give God their best and do their best for Him. Help them to understand that all that we have (gifts, talents, material items, friends, family, homes, etc..) are FROM HIM! Therefore, we should be willing to return a portion of what He has given to us back to Him! We should bring tithe's & offerings to the church to be used to reach others for Christ and help those in need. We should use the gifts and abilities He's given us to point others to Jesus Christ. We should use our time to serve Him in the ways He has called each of us - serving in church, volunteering in a soup kitchen, telling others about Jesus Christ...just to name a few.

God gave His very best to us - His VERY OWN Son, Jesus Christ, SUFFERED, BLED, and DIED for YOU. How are YOU giving YOUR BEST back to HIM?

TRAINING UP A CHILD HOMEWORK:
1. Help your child memorize Proverbs 3:9 and be able to recite it to me next Sunday.
2. Keep reading through the Book of James with your child for the months of January and February.
3. Encourage your child to give their very best everyday - do their best at being a son/daughter, friend, student, athlete, or whatever (we touched on cleaning our rooms to the best of our abilities! Hope that helps some of ya'll out:-) ) Show them that by giving and doing our best honors God. God will take notice even if no one else does. Help them to understand that true character is how they act when no one is around. Do they still give their best when no one is looking? Should they give there best even when there is no reward or prize? So what does that mean about memorizing verses each week, reading our Bibles, and praying everyday? These are just some of the questions that can lead into a great discussion for you and your child.

In His Love, Cathy
