Caring for the Helpless and Oppressed

"LORD, you know the hopes of the helpless. Surely you will hear their cries and comfort them. You will bring justice to the orphans and the oppressed, so mere people can no longer terrify them." Psalm 10:17–18

"God cares about the helpless, oppressed victims of injustice. Tough questions: Do you? Do you even know people in these categories, or have you insulated yourself? God wants to minister to the helpless, and he means to do so through his people. How are you carrying out God's justice to the helpless? Ask God to give you his heart and show you actions you can take to bring God's comfort and hope to those who cry out to him for help. Jesus came all the way from heaven to a stable in order to bring comfort and hope. What can you do?"—Diane Eble, author of Abundant Gifts: A Daybook of Grace-Filled Devotions

How appropriate this message is for us as we prepare to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He came to find that which was lost, healing the sick, comforting the lonely, giving hope to those the world simply tossed aside and wrote off as nothing. As we celebrate Christmas and New Years with our families, let us not forget those who are helpless and hopeless. Pray for the lost to hear The Good News and accept Christ. Find ways to help those in need not just during the holiday season but throughout the upcoming new year.

Make 2009 a year of making a difference in the lives of others in the Name of Jesus Christ, our Lord!

In His Love, Cathy
