Unfortunately this clip cut off the quote that I wanted to focus on, but it's the only clip I could find of it out on Youtube. So I'll complete the clip with Mater's quote at the end of this scene, "Ain't no need to see where I'm going, just need to know where I've been." Wisdom according to Mater -wow, I guess you can tell I'm a children's pastor!
Though Mater is a dimwitted character, this quote does sum up my feelings as 2008 comes to a close. "Ain't no need to see where I'm going"...because I know that whatever does come my way is already in God's capable hands. I need simply to have faith in Him through whatever may come!
"Just need to know where I've been"...yes, we do need to know where we've been. In Psalm 107:43, we see that it it very important for us to remember the past, "Those who are wise will take all this to heart;they will see in our history the faithful love of the Lord." And when looking back over the past year- a tough year filled with turmoil, health crisis, loss of a dear loved one,and struggles with personal grief/depression - I can see the faithful love of God, always with me! In retrospect, I see how HE pulled us through some really tough times, healed my broken heart, and brought victory in our lives. I can see how HE protected us, blessed us, and used even the worst of circumstances for His glory! I see how HE brought comfort to Granddaddy and how HE worked in the circumstances surrounding Granddaddy's passing. I can see how HE sent people to minister to us, to protect us, and to surround us with HIS love. I can see how HE used us to minister to others, encourage others, and bring about spiritual transformation in the lives of so many. I can see how HE has brought so many of us THROUGH trials, turmoils, and troubles. I see how HE has faithfully ANSWERED prayers with AWESOME deeds. I can see how HE brought healing to so many in our church family, how HE comforted those who were hurting and suffering, and how HE has brought forth beauty from the ashes!
In reflecting back on one of the toughest years of my life, I see GOD EVERYWHERE! Let me encourage you to reflect on 2008. Think of all God has done in the past year for you, for your family, and for HIS PEOPLE. Take a moment to write these down and give thanks for all He has done. Share these things with your children, so that they will learn and believe, too! Then, resolve to grow your faith in HIM in the new year! Have faith in HIM to handle 2009 - for faith is believing in that which is not seen!
Then Jesus told him, “You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me.” John 20:29
Keep the faith, friends, and be blessed! Grace and peace!
In His Love, Cathy
