"If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!" Luke 11:13
Have you ever watched a child on Christmas Day? Can you remember your childhood Christmases? Oh the wonder and excitement of it all! The beautifully giftwrapped presents with glistening bows, all tucked teasingly under the tree, fueled your childish curiosity! Then the big day arrived. Excitement was at an all time high! Santa came, presents were opened. Everything was new! Everything was shiny! Everything worked! Then time passed. You lost interest. Everything grew old. Everything became dingy. Everything broke. Pieces were lost. Even your most prized and favorite gift no longer had the luster that it once possessed on Christmas Day. The best gift that your parents ever gave you for Christmas couldn't hold up to the wear and tear of time.
So, what about those gifts that are sentimental in nature? Yes, those are more substantial and do have a more lasting value than material gifts, but they, too, can dim over time. Memories fade, people's relationships can change, and people can change as well. Nothing in this world is guaranteed.
But there is one gift that is greater than all gifts. God gives us the greatest gift of all - the gift of the Holy Spirit! This gift is a gift that lives in the hearts of believers. What could be better than GOD WITH US? Unlike the gifts of this world, this gift doesn't tarnish with time, it doesn't break, and it definitely isn't boring! In other words, time has no effect on this gift of the Holy Spirit. This gift helps us live a life of abundance that Christ, God's own Son, promised us in John 10:10 "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." It is the gift of The Holy Spirit that gives us LIFE!
May you enjoy the love, hope, joy, peace, of this Christmas Season! May you experience the gift of the Holy Spirit in your life!
In His Love, Cathy
