Rock Solid: What Your Child Learned in Church Today, June 7

Bible Lesson: The Story of Noah (Genesis 6:1-10)

Memory Verse: "Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him." (1 John 2:15 NIV)

Main Point: I will follow God's ways and not the world's ways!

What we learned: Today, we learned how important it is to live a godly and righteous life, instead of conforming to a sinful world. We examined the lives of the people living during the time of Noah, and compare their unrighteous, sinful, wicked life to that of Noah, who was living according to God's will. Further, we learned that pride, love of money, dishonesty, craving pleasures and greed were wrong in God's eyes, and instead children should be compassionate, kind, humble, honest and patient. Like Noah.

TRAINING UP A CHILD HOMEWORK:
1. Memory Verse Practice 1 John 2:15 several times with your child during the week. This will not only help them remember the verse, it will also help to reinforce what they learned during class.

2. Suggested Parent/Child Activity: Spend some time with your child watching the local news, or reading the newspaper. Ask your child to indicate if the story or article is something that shows godliness, or wickedness. For example, a story about rescue or helping people who suffered in a disaster could represent godliness, where as a story about murder or theft could represent wickedness. You can make this into a game by seeing who can identify the type of story first, and then awarding points.

3. Suggested Daily Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to live my life according to your will. Let me be like your servant Noah, who lived in this world, but did not conform to this world. Help me to know the difference between what is right and wrong, and choose what is pleasing to you. Amen.

In His Love, Cathy
