Thankful for Jesus

I'm thankful that Christ died for me! I'm thankful that He loves me! I am a new creation in Christ! To HIM be the glory and honor...FOREVER!

'But giving thanks is a sacrifice that truly honors me.If you keep to my path,I will reveal to you the salvation of God.”' Psalm 50:23

'When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners.' Romans 5:6

'I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said' 1 Corinthians 15:3

'Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us.' Romans 8:34

"We love him, because he first loved us." 1 John 4:19

"5And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,
6And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen." Revelations 1:5-6

'As for us, we can’t help but thank God for you, dear brothers and sisters loved by the Lord. We are always thankful that God chose you to be among the first to experience salvation—a salvation that came through the Spirit who makes you holy and through your belief in the truth.' 2 Thessalonians 2:13

'Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony. 15 And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.
16 Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. ' Colossians 3:14-16

'For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.' John 3:16

A Time for Reconciliation

Have you ever suffered a broken relationship - a broken marriage, a falling out with a family member, or loss of a friendship? I think we all have. It's a fact of life.

Whatever the reason for the lost relationship, God can help us through it. Ideally, we are to seek reconciliation with those we have broken fellowship with. Pray for God's help in restoring the relationship. Seek forgiveness and work through the issue together. Pray for the other person and for yourself in resolving the conflict.
  • "And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.” Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, for anger gives a foothold to the devil." Ephesians 4:26-27
  • “If another believer sins against you, go privately and point out the offense. If the other person listens and confesses it, you have won that person back. Matthew 18:15

But what about when reconciliation doesn't seem possible? What if the relationship has been so damaged and completely broken that it seems totally irrepairable? What if the broken relationship is with another devout believer. Even the apostle Paul experienced a broken relationship with another fellow believer and servant of Christ, Barnabas. Barnabas and Paul were joined at the hip, traveling and preaching The Good News of Christ. They faced the Jerusalem council together, convincing the council that Christ was not only sent for the Jewish people, but for the Gentiles as well. "Barnabas was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and strong in faith. And many people were brought to the Lord." Acts 11:24

But then, Paul and Barnabas had a disagreement. This disagreement was so sharp that it caused a rift in the friendship and the two went their separate ways.

'After some time Paul said to Barnabas, “Let’s go back and visit each city where we previously preached the word of the Lord, to see how the new believers are doing.” Barnabas agreed and wanted to take along John Mark. But Paul disagreed strongly, since John Mark had deserted them in Pamphylia and had not continued with them in their work. Their disagreement was so sharp that they separated. Barnabas took John Mark with him and sailed for Cyprus. Paul chose Silas, and as he left, the believers entrusted him to the Lord’s gracious care. Then he traveled throughout Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches there.' Acts 15:36-41

These two obviously didn't mend their fences before nightfall. The friendship did not seem to be reconciled before Barnabus' departure. But God even uses broken friendships to further His work...Barnabas went one way, preaching and teaching, Paul went another way. The fantastic preaching duo was no more. But because of the rift, they were able to cover more territory, reaching more people with the news of Salvation through Jesus Christ.

Yes, we need to do all that is within our power to heal broken relationships and entrust God with the situation. We may not understand how or why things went wrong between us and the other person, but we do know that we serve a God whose plans are perfect in every way.

Even though we are faced with an irrepairable relationship, there are some things we can do and must do in order for us to be ready for God's healing. First, forgive. 'But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too. ” ' Mark 11:25 We must forgive the other person for our sake as well as theirs. We must also be ready to forgive ourselves! We can not move on in our lives until this happens.

Second, pray. We must pray for the other person, for ourselves, and for the relationship. Pray for God's intervention and for circumstances to work out according to HIS WILL! Then trust God to work things out. If reconciliation does not come, then you need to move on in faith that God works all things according to His perfect plan.

Third, seek godly counseling. Perhaps the help of a Christian counselor as a third party can help resolve issues and help with the reconciliation process. Even having a nonbiased third party as a witness to the reconciliation process is Biblical and wise. Sometimes the broken relationship is surrounded by emotionally charged circumstances. Negotiating with the help of a godly counselor is especially important under these circumstances. In addition, giving a little time and space before attempting reconciliation may also be necessary so to give highly charged emotions time to calm down. In the meantime, have self control in what you say and what you do. Keep to any agreements, as best you can under the given circumstances, you made with the other person. Breaking such agreements only further damages the relationship. Keeping your word is so important in building back the trust that was lost. Accept any responsibility you have in the broken relationship - that's not saying that you should be the scape goat and take all of the blame. Ask God to examine your heart and show you where you were wrong, then apologize for it.

Finally, let go and let God! Cast all of your cares, worries, and anxieties over to Him. He loves you and will be faithful to get you through.

A Reflection of 2008

Unfortunately this clip cut off the quote that I wanted to focus on, but it's the only clip I could find of it out on Youtube. So I'll complete the clip with Mater's quote at the end of this scene, "Ain't no need to see where I'm going, just need to know where I've been." Wisdom according to Mater -wow, I guess you can tell I'm a children's pastor!

Though Mater is a dimwitted character, this quote does sum up my feelings as 2008 comes to a close. "Ain't no need to see where I'm going"...because I know that whatever does come my way is already in God's capable hands. I need simply to have faith in Him through whatever may come!

"Just need to know where I've been"...yes, we do need to know where we've been. In Psalm 107:43, we see that it it very important for us to remember the past, "Those who are wise will take all this to heart;they will see in our history the faithful love of the Lord." And when looking back over the past year- a tough year filled with turmoil, health crisis, loss of a dear loved one,and struggles with personal grief/depression - I can see the faithful love of God, always with me! In retrospect, I see how HE pulled us through some really tough times, healed my broken heart, and brought victory in our lives. I can see how HE protected us, blessed us, and used even the worst of circumstances for His glory! I see how HE brought comfort to Granddaddy and how HE worked in the circumstances surrounding Granddaddy's passing. I can see how HE sent people to minister to us, to protect us, and to surround us with HIS love. I can see how HE used us to minister to others, encourage others, and bring about spiritual transformation in the lives of so many. I can see how HE has brought so many of us THROUGH trials, turmoils, and troubles. I see how HE has faithfully ANSWERED prayers with AWESOME deeds. I can see how HE brought healing to so many in our church family, how HE comforted those who were hurting and suffering, and how HE has brought forth beauty from the ashes!

In reflecting back on one of the toughest years of my life, I see GOD EVERYWHERE! Let me encourage you to reflect on 2008. Think of all God has done in the past year for you, for your family, and for HIS PEOPLE. Take a moment to write these down and give thanks for all He has done. Share these things with your children, so that they will learn and believe, too! Then, resolve to grow your faith in HIM in the new year! Have faith in HIM to handle 2009 - for faith is believing in that which is not seen!

Then Jesus told him, “You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me.” John 20:29

Keep the faith, friends, and be blessed! Grace and peace!

A Tale of Two Tongues:Listener Beware!

The tongue is a tricky little thing. Though one of the smallest parts of the body, it can get us into such a mess in a hurry. For from the tongue can come good or evil - depending on it's use by it's owner.

One of the biggest challenges we face daily is taming the tongue. God warns us of the evil that we can do with our tongues - lying, gossiping, criticizing, hurting, and cursing - just to name a few. In Psalms 52:2, we see that, "Thy tongue deviseth mischiefs; like a sharp razor, working deceitfully."

You see, Satan, the father of all lies, knows how to make lies, gossip, and criticism appealing to us. He can package the evils of the tongue in the most seemingly innocent of packages. He's a pro at getting us to fall for them too - whether we are the listener or the one speaking them! Criticism (gossip) made by others under the guise of 'concern' or 'an opinion' is a very slick disguise. But the dangers of the tongue can go even further than just gossipping or criticizing. God even warns us of false teachers and prophets. In Matthew 7:15 we see that we are to “Beware of false prophets who come disguised as harmless sheep but are really vicious wolves." This has to be the most dangerous of evils from the tongue as it can lead people astray.

A twisted tongue also causes division and strife between friends. "A froward man soweth strife: and a whisperer separates chief friends." (Proverbs 16:28) Sadly, many of us have been on the receiving end of this at one time in our lives. You know that friend who is always giving you "The Latest" about others? Do you wonder what they are saying about you when you aren't around? When we lend an ear to 'whisperers,' we are setting ourselves up for hurt and suffering. Is the pain and grief we suffer as a result really worth lending an ear to gossipers and critics? Or maybe we are the gossip or critic, believing we've done nothing wrong - at least from our viewpoint! We don't understand why our friends avoid us or have seemingly turned against us. In either case, we are the casualties of the evil that can be invoked by the tongue. The good news is that there is healing and forgiveness through Christ. We can make things right if we seek His Will in the matter. There is reconciliation for those wholly submitted to Christ and who genuinely seek reconciliation (not retaliation).

In the end, no matter how someone may coat their words under 'genuine concern', WE need to put a guard over our heart and ears. Filter what others are saying through the Holy Spirit. Ask God to help us discern the words of others. Keep up our guard and stay in tune with the Holy Spirit. Most importanly, we must seek God's guidance. His Truth is the only one that counts!

Christmas: A Promise Fulfilled

Then King David went in and sat before the LORD and prayed, "Who am I, O LORD God, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far? And now, O God, in addition to everything else, you speak of giving your servant a lasting dynasty! You speak as though I were someone very great, O LORD God!" "And now, O LORD, I am your servant; do as you have promised concerning me and my family. May it be a promise that will last forever. And may your name be established and honored forever so that everyone will say, 'The LORD of Heaven's Armies, the God of Israel, is Israel's God!' And may the house of your servant David continue before you forever."1 Chronicles 17:16–17, 23–24

David, the King of Israel, recognized himself as God's humble servant. Imagine, a king who is great in the eyes of this world, on his knees, given in total, humble submission to the LORD GOD! A king, on his knees, before GOD! What a powerful image! How many leaders of today's world would do such a thing? Not many. (Let's face it, how often do we ourselves fall on our knees before the Lord? Daily? Weekly? Monthly? Yearly? There is just something about physically getting on your knees in prayer - but that's another blog!)

Because of David's wholehearted love and devotion to God, God made David a promise - that David's dynasty would last forever! Over 700 years later, God remembered His promise to David -and the SON of GOD, Jesus Christ, was born! The world was given hope and salvation through the line of David.

That night there were shepherds staying in the fields nearby, guarding their flocks of sheep. Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared among them, and the radiance of the Lord’s glory surrounded them. They were terrified, but the angel reassured them. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David! And you will recognize him by this sign: You will find a baby wrapped snugly in strips of cloth, lying in a manger.”

Suddenly, the angel was joined by a vast host of others—the armies of heaven—praising God and saying,

“Glory to God in highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased."
Luke 2:11-14
God sent us the greatest gift of all - His ONE and ONLY SON! Let us celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, the LIVING Son of GOD!
May you and your family have a blessed Christmas and the Happiest of New Years!

Caring for the Helpless and Oppressed

"LORD, you know the hopes of the helpless. Surely you will hear their cries and comfort them. You will bring justice to the orphans and the oppressed, so mere people can no longer terrify them." Psalm 10:17–18

"God cares about the helpless, oppressed victims of injustice. Tough questions: Do you? Do you even know people in these categories, or have you insulated yourself? God wants to minister to the helpless, and he means to do so through his people. How are you carrying out God's justice to the helpless? Ask God to give you his heart and show you actions you can take to bring God's comfort and hope to those who cry out to him for help. Jesus came all the way from heaven to a stable in order to bring comfort and hope. What can you do?"—Diane Eble, author of Abundant Gifts: A Daybook of Grace-Filled Devotions

How appropriate this message is for us as we prepare to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He came to find that which was lost, healing the sick, comforting the lonely, giving hope to those the world simply tossed aside and wrote off as nothing. As we celebrate Christmas and New Years with our families, let us not forget those who are helpless and hopeless. Pray for the lost to hear The Good News and accept Christ. Find ways to help those in need not just during the holiday season but throughout the upcoming new year.

Make 2009 a year of making a difference in the lives of others in the Name of Jesus Christ, our Lord!

Cardboard Testimonies

Wow! What can I say? I heard so many people say how touching and how wonderful Sunday's Church Service was. One person, who brought visitors with them, commented on how it was the perfect Sunday to have brought their friends. The cardboard testimonies really hit home. I stand AMAZED at the wonderful work God does in the lives of people - the way Christ totally transforms people into new creations! God was definitely honored and glorified today!

The cardboard testimonies truly showed how God can take ANYONE in ANY SITUATION and totally turn their life around! He has and will continue to save those who call on Him! He loves you, right now, just like you are. He can help you, no matter what you've done or who you are. He is the God of second chances! Give your life wholly over to Christ today! Then watch what God does in and through you!

Guard Your Heart

I received this in my E-Couragement for Today from Today's Christian Woman and wanted to pass it along to you.

"Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life." Proverbs 4:23

"Encouragement for Today
The heart is, well, the heart of everything else in our lives. We need to guard it in terms of what we let into it and what we let out of it. Both will determine the course of our lives. Being in touch with your own inner truth, whether feelings, thoughts, needs, or desires, is part of it. Living by values built on the Bible is another part. Guarding against destructive images and other negative input is also involved. Above all else, guard your heart! And—it's one of the most important things we can teach our children.—Diane Eble, author of Abundant Gifts: A Daybook of Grace-Filled Devotions"

It is so important for us to guard our hearts - what goes in affects what comes out. When I was a computer programmer, we knew too well that bad input yielded bad results. We had a saying, "Garbage in, Garbage out!" The same is true of our hearts - especially the impressionable hearts of our children. Be on guard about what you allow not only into your heart, but what you allow into the hearts of your children. Be diligent about the kinds of books, music, movies, TV shows, friends, language, beliefs, and philosophy your children are exposed to. We can not prevent everything from reaching their little ears and eyes, but with diligence and Biblical training, we can help them to learn to choose things that will purify and not pollute their hearts. In other words, it's time to teach our children how to "take out the garbage!"

From A Child

Because you have the heart of Christ,
So many lives are changed.
A child may one day say to you,
"It was because of you I came."

"I came to the cross because you told me of
The Man who died for me.
He took away my sin
by being nailed to a tree.
He did no wrong, yet He did die,
And suffered in such pain.
You told me that He was God's only Son,
and is alive today.
I was young and just didn't get it.
I just didn't understand, 'Why?'"

"But as I grew and my questions sometimes tried your faith,
your love for Him and your patience with me
helped me to see the way.
You shared His love not just through what you said,
but what you did as well.
You loved me just like you said He loves me,
whether I was good or I was bad."

"Because of you I'm here today, about to enter Heaven's Gates,
to finally meet my Savior face to face. Boy! I've come a long way!
But when I go back and think about it, I know just what He's like.
For I saw Him first in you, through your heart and in your loving eyes."

Thank you all who answer the call of Christ, who serve children and minister to them.

Every person and every job in this ministry is so vital in ensuring children have the opportunity to hear the message of Salvation! Though we know that salvation is the work of the Holy Spirit, God uses us and works through us to bring that message to all mankind - young and old.

God is using you to CHANGE YOUNG LIVES FOREVER!

Thank you for an awesome year of Children's Ministry! I'm can't wait to see what God has planned for 2009!

Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." Matthew 19:14

The Greatest Gift of All

"If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!" Luke 11:13

Have you ever watched a child on Christmas Day? Can you remember your childhood Christmases? Oh the wonder and excitement of it all! The beautifully giftwrapped presents with glistening bows, all tucked teasingly under the tree, fueled your childish curiosity! Then the big day arrived. Excitement was at an all time high! Santa came, presents were opened. Everything was new! Everything was shiny! Everything worked! Then time passed. You lost interest. Everything grew old. Everything became dingy. Everything broke. Pieces were lost. Even your most prized and favorite gift no longer had the luster that it once possessed on Christmas Day. The best gift that your parents ever gave you for Christmas couldn't hold up to the wear and tear of time.

So, what about those gifts that are sentimental in nature? Yes, those are more substantial and do have a more lasting value than material gifts, but they, too, can dim over time. Memories fade, people's relationships can change, and people can change as well. Nothing in this world is guaranteed.

But there is one gift that is greater than all gifts. God gives us the greatest gift of all - the gift of the Holy Spirit! This gift is a gift that lives in the hearts of believers. What could be better than GOD WITH US? Unlike the gifts of this world, this gift doesn't tarnish with time, it doesn't break, and it definitely isn't boring! In other words, time has no effect on this gift of the Holy Spirit. This gift helps us live a life of abundance that Christ, God's own Son, promised us in John 10:10 "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." It is the gift of The Holy Spirit that gives us LIFE!

May you enjoy the love, hope, joy, peace, of this Christmas Season! May you experience the gift of the Holy Spirit in your life!

Signs of Life: Focus on Children's Ministry Volunteers

"We will not hide these truths from our children;we will tell the next generation about the glorious deeds of the Lord, about his power and his mighty wonders." Psalm 78:3-5

I don't even know where to start. God had blessed the children's ministry with so many amazingly gifted people. Each one has one thing in common, they serve Christ wholeheartedly and they have a passion for reaching children with the message of salvation. Oh, wait, there's another thing they have in common. Each of them are so humble they will probably kill me for even mentioning them here. But I feel compelled to honor them. You know what, now that I think about it, they have so many more characteristics in common as well. They are all generous, giving, and humble. They are the most unselfish people I know. They look out for others and see to their needs before their own. They are faithful to the mission God has given this ministry. Each of them are also great friends of mine and I count their frienship a blessing! Not to mention that these wonderful people volunteer in so many other ways in this ministry and across the church. Any one of them is involved in at a minimum of 3 to 6 ministry activities at the same time. And what's more, there are three young ladies on the list who are products of our teen ministry! They felt the call to serve and answered the call! How awesome is that! This is also a testimony to the work God is doing in the lives of teens through the youth ministry of PCC! Praise God!

Now I wish to honor these volunteers, for honoring them is honoring the God they so willingly serve. Their lives bear witness to Christ in such monumental ways. They are living testimonies to the abundant life in Christ! Want to see signs of life? Then look to these amazing people.

Each one of these people are also dearly loved! I hope I remembered everyone! In addition to these volunteers, there are so many others of our church family who have come out and supported the children's ministry in so many ways throughout the year. We are so thankful for your support, prayers, and help. You are a blessing to this ministry and such an important player in reaching lost children with the message of salvation. I am also so very thankful for Pastor Ron and Renae for their prayers and active support for the children's ministry as well. You guys are such a blessing!

Did you know that according to the Barna research group, a child has formed their beliefs about God by the age of 13. Once a person becomes an adult, the probability that they will become saved is so small. The job is so great and though we have a great group of volunteers, there is more work to be done than we can do. We are always praying and asking for people who are willing to step up to the ministry of reaching children for Christ. It's a big job and it takes ALL of us, with God's help, to accomplish it. Won't YOU answer that call?

"We will not hide these truths from our children;we will tell the next generation about the glorious deeds of the Lord, about his power and his mighty wonders." Psalm 78:3-5

The claws are out, the teeth are bared, and I've totally lost control in this situation, if I ever had it to begin with. It all began so innocently with good intentions. Out of the goodness of our hearts, we rescued the sweetest, smallest kitten off the streets. A store owner had found the mother with the litter in the trash bin behind her store. So, I adopted this sweet faced, innocent baby, much to Scott's dismay. I had not idea she would grow up to be a psycho cat! See how her eyes glow in the picture! Scary, huh!

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me, right? That's the way the saying goes, anyway. Well, it's shame on me. Because I didnt' learn my lesson the first time. I fell for it once again. We adopted another cat out of a hard luck case this summer. My mother had adopted her just weeks before my grandfather, her father, passed away. Mom was not able to keep her under the circumstances. I thought we'd give Bonnie the Calico cat a chance. She is such a sweet cat, wants to be friends with everyone and every animal, and is so well behaved. Not to mention she's just a beautiful cat. She is nothing like psycho cat. I thought she'd be a great fit in our home. WRONGO! Our house turned upside down the minute we brought her home.

Psycho cat went even MORE NUTS! Bonnie tried to be polite and make friends, but psycho cat was, well, psycho. It's so bad that psycho cat will hide in the covered litter boxes, waiting to ambush Bonnie. Bonnie has become so afraid to use the litter box, that she goes in other places...closets, throw rugs, and in the corner of our bedroom. YUCK!!! In my research, I discovered that Bonnie is suffering from stress. Well, duh! I would be too if someone tried to beat me up every time I tried to go to the potty. The final straw was yesterday morning when Scott woke up to discover Bonnie had gone on the KITCHEN COUNTER on a Hand Towel!!! GROSSSSS!!!!! This earned Bonnie a permanent time out in the garage with all her toys, goodies, and litter box. (Don't worry, we go out there, play with her and keep it warm out there.) BTW, Bonnie is three times the size of psycho cat. But psycho cat is 100 times more, well, psycho!

But wait, there's more. This morning I found psycho cat squatting in the corner of my bedroom GOING IN THE SAME PLACE Bonnie had gone....RECLAIMING her territory. OH NOOOOOO SHE DIDN'T! OH YES SHE DID!

And you know what happened next? This time, I was the CAThy that WENT PSYCHO!!!

Now they are both in permanent time out in the garage until we can figure this thing out. And yes, we have sought advice and tried so many 'expert' techniques. (PS - We've steam cleaned the carpets and they're still going everywhere, we've studied cat behavior and asked for expert advice on the situation, we've used training aids, we've separated them and reintroduced them slowly in supervised situations, yes, we've used squirt bottles, we've tried it all. The problem is that we are not home during the day to consistently watch and train them. So if you are great with cats and want a cat for Christmas, please let me know. Bonnie would be an excellent pet and does use the litter box when psycho isn't around to ambush her!)

Uh oh! Just had a jail break! Psycho cat just busted through the closed garage doggie door leading back into the house. Now BOTH cats are freely roaming the house again! Teeth and claws bared! Help! Demon cats are on the loose! Lord help us all! I told you I've lost control of this situation! We need an exorcist! This could make a good Stephen King Novel. And yes, there is a pet cemetary in our back yard with a couple of fish and a hamster. This is scary!

First and Foremost

"So David asked God, "Should I go out to fight the Philistines? Will you hand them over to me?"The LORD replied, "Yes, go ahead. I will hand them over to you." …But after a while the Philistines returned and raided the valley again. And once again David asked God what to do. "Do not attack them straight on," God replied. "Instead, circle around behind and attack them near the poplar trees." … So David did what God commanded, and they struck down the Philistine army all the way from Gibeon to Gezer." 1 Chronicles 14:10, 13–14, 16

I received this verse as my daily encouragement today. It had such a great message to followup with the Desiring Greatness blog. David was a great man because he was anointed by God and was a man after God's own heart. He wasn't perfect, but God put him in a position of great power and authority for HIS purpose.

Now, notice here in these verses what David did as he faced battle against the Philistines. His very first action was to seek God's guidance! Unlike Saul, David sought God's guidance and then David obeyed! And, as a result of David's obedience, God gave the victory to David and the Israelites. But notice what happens later on. The Philistines returned. David and the Israelites already fought these dudes once and won. They knew how to beat these guys - or did they? David didn't assume he knew God's plan. He wanted to KNOW God's plan without a shadow of a doubt.

There's actually a couple of important points we can take from this. First, all too often, we fail to seek God's guidance and presence until we are in trouble. We only turn to God in desperate times to pull us out of the hole we've dug ourselves into. Instead, we should seek God in all circumstances at all times. We can receive God's supernatural help and His great presence, not to mention avoid trouble for ourselves, if we just take a moment to stop and ask Him for guidance!

The second point that this passage brings to my attention is the fact that David made no assumptions about what God's will was when facing the Philistines for a second time. How often do we assume what God wants us to do without truly seeking His guidance and input on the matter? How often do we superimpose our will over His? Some of us may be in denial, but let's be honest here, it's probably more than we'd really like to admit to ourselves. I myself am guilty of this at times. It's a human frailty.

So, in desiring to do something great for God, we must commit to seeking His guidance first and foremost, then following through with obedience. We must also remember to give Him the credit for the victories that He accomplishes through us, no matter how big or small.

He loves you so very much! Grace and Peace!

Desiring Greatness

"And David became more and more powerful, because the LORD of Heaven's Armies was with him." 1 Chronicles 11:9

Is is wrong to desire greatness? Is it wrong to want to be powerful and desire to be recognized as someone of importance? It depends. What are your motives for your desire for greatness? If your motives are rooted in personal pride, arrogance, and greed, then your desire for greatness is wrong. It most likely isn't of God. If your motive is in alignment with God's will, then your desire for greatness is rooted in righteousness. You see it's okay to desire greatness for the right reasons. What are the right reasons for desiring greatness, recognition, and power? To bring God glory and honor, to desire God to use you to point others to Him, and allow Him to use your position, power, or influence for His Works - just to name a few. Of course, any power, greatness, authority, or wealth that we have are because of Him in the first place.

I had a young lady tell me once that she wanted to be an elementary school teacher. She went on to say she wanted to be the BEST teacher in the school so that parents would ask for her by name for their children. When I asked why, she said she just wanted to be the best teacher because she wanted to be better than anyone else. Her answer disturbed me. I guess, personally, I was searching for a deeper meaning in her answer. As a teacher, I do desire to be a great teacher, but I desire to be a great teacher for two reasons. The first reason is to bring God glory. Through being a great teacher I serve Him with honor. The second reason I want to be a great teacher is for my students. I want them to have the best teacher possible to prepare them for the future. The same is true for the children's ministry. I want to the the best children's pastor possible in serving the God I love so much. I also desire to be a great children's pastor for the sake of the children I love and serve with the passion of Christ!

If you desire greatness, examine your motives behind this desire. Ask God to reveal to you any motives where you fall short of His Will. Then ask for His help in aligning your desire for greatness with His Purpose. He put that desire for greatness in you for a reason. He will use it to achieve great things through YOU if you wholly submit yourself to Him. And once you do...the Lord of Heaven's Armies will be with You!

Grace and Peace!

Don't be a Grinch! Keeping a Right Attitude & Spirit

"The Grinch Who Stole Christmas" was one of my FAVORITE Christmas shows growing up! I have so many fond memories of my sister and I, in our Winnie the Pooh pajama's (with footies) sitting in front of our family TV excitedly watching 'The Grinch.' Each Christmas special meant we were one night closer to "The Big One," - Christmas Eve!

As I've grown up and become a Christian, I know the real meaning of Christmas is about Christ and His gift of salvation. As a Christian, it is SO IMPORTANT that I maintain the RIGHT ATTITUDE and SPIRIT not only this Christmas season but EVERY SINGLE DAY. Believers and nonbelievers alike are watching me, noticing if I'm truly living the faith I so profusely proclaim. Family members, friends, church members, students, and strangers can either see CHRIST IN ME or MISSING IN ME by MY WORDS and ACTIONS. I'll be the first to admit that I don't always get it right all of the time!

As we go forth this Christmas Season and kick off the New Year, let's commit to LOVE ONE ANOTHER. This is one of the biggest complaints among nonbelievers about Christians...that we don't act any differently than they do, that we are hypocrites! We can't win over nonbelievers to Christ if we aren't living for Him and loving others the way He commanded us to. So let's get to loving one another!

What does it mean to love one another?

1. Loving one another means to be ENCOURAGING and EDIFYING. To do only that which BUILDS UP - NOT that which TEARS DOWN. It calls us to RESPECT others, especially other believers and those God has called to serve Him. My son Mathew's 2nd grade teacher made all of her students look up the word edify and memorize it's meaning. If she heard her students say something mean to each other, they had to write 'edify' and it's defition from memory a certain number of times and then use it in a sentence appropriate for the situation. In 1 Thessalonians, Paul gives similar advice to the early church.

"Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. Now we ask you, brothers, to respect those who work hard among you, who are over you in the Lord and who admonish you. " 1 Thessalonians 5:11-12

2. Loving others means to PUT THEIR INERESTS ABOVE YOUR OWN. To be ready to help a brother or sister in need even if it cost you!

"Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. " Phillippians 2:3-4

Christ showed us the ultimate example of this when He gave up His own life, dying on the cross, to pay the price for OUR SINS!

3. Loving others means to NOT to CRITICIZE, Not to be MEAN-SPIRITED toward ONE ANOTHER. We are NOT to even THINK ILL or SPEAK ILL of one another! Did you know that? It's right there in the BIBLE!

"Don’t speak evil against each other, dear brothers and sisters. If you criticize and judge each other, then you are criticizing and judging God’s law. But your job is to obey the law, not to judge whether it applies to you. God alone, who gave the law, is the Judge. He alone has the power to save or to destroy. So what right do you have to judge your neighbor?" (James 4:11)

Did you know that when when we criticize and judge a fellow Christian brother or sister we are putting ourselves on GOD's Throne of Judgement! Basically, we kick God to the curb and we take over! Last time I checked, WE AIN'T GOD! We ain't in charge, either! God alone is in charge of the judging department. Trust me, he didn't recruit us for that job - we don't have the MINIMUM credentials for the job! So before we say something critical about the splinter in the eye of others, we need to get that big ole log out of our own eye! We may be forgiven, but we still ain't perfect! The last time I checked, God was still on the throne and Jesus Christ was the only one who could walk on water!

4. Loving others means to HAVE THE RIGHT ATTITUDE towards others - the ATTITUDE of CHRIST JESUS!

"You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had." Phillippians 2:5

Attitude is everything. Having the attitude of Christ permeates our entire being. We can have the attitude of Christ because of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. People notice if we have a loving attitude or not. It affects EVERYTHING we say and do. People will know if we are acting in genuine love or not. Christ will shine through if our heart attitude is right!

At the end of "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas," it was a tiny little who girl, Cindy Lou Who, who broke through the hard, cold heart of the Grinch. And, as the tale goes, the Grinch's heart grew three sizes that day. Because the Grinch realized that Christmas wasn't about the gifts and the material things. It was about love. The only thing that would have made this story perfect would for it to have told the real meaning of Christmas, the Birth of the Son of God, Jesus Christ!

Use this Christmas Season as an opportunity to share the love of Jesus Christ with others. Make this love REAL by your WORDS and by your ACTIONS. Keep a RIGHT ATTITUDE and SPIRIT of LOVE in all circumstances. Don't let the Grinch steal the REAL SPIRIT of Christmas from your heart! LOVE GOD and share His love by LOVING PEOPLE!

Grace and Peace!

Too Pooped to Blog

Oh no she didn't! Oh yes I did, I used the word, 'pooped'! And that's exactly what it is this week!

Sorry to let you down, friends. I haven't been able to blog so much this week. God's had me working on some other things in preparation for special holiday lessons for the children and getting special children's events planning kicked off.

AND...I've been working on special Thanksgiving related projects for my high school math classes. It wasn't easy coming up with math related Thanksgiving projects, but praise God, He helped me find something and the students had a blast! We did turkey statistics and I got some pretty creative graphs as a result.

AND...Miss Brittany had her very first high school JV Basketball Game this week. Praise God for such a sweet, talented child who only unleashes that aggression on the court and not off the court, especially not on any of us! All of the girls on the team are great players and did so well that night. They are such an outstanding team. Sadly, though, they lost by 10 points. But, they played the highest ranking team in the state. So, for their first high school game, they played very well!

Thank you to all of the wonderful ladies who came out Wednesday night to plan the children's Christmas party and planning the decorations for the children's wing! I'm so excited to see what you have come up with! The children are going to have a BLAST! Thank you so much for your hard work and for your dedication to making this special for the children!

Well, gotta go for now. My mom is coming today. I'm taking the day off to clean house, run errands and such. Be sure to check in on Sunday when I'll be blogging more regularly again! Have a blessed day! Blog to you later! Grace and Peace!

Taking A Risk

Who knew that as Ron preached on this Sunday that many of us would have to face this in some way or another just minutes, hours, or days after he preached about it. Some took a risk by venturing into a new business. Others took a new risk by exploring new career possibilities. Some of my fellow teachers and I are taking a risk just by being a Christian these days.

We received an email at work on Monday from one of our School Board Directors admonishing us that the school board email and internet were for shool board communication only (which I understand, they are the employer and it should only be used for work related communications.) But the next paragraph was what surprised me. The next paragraph addressed its misuse for religious or inspirational purposes...no other reasons for misuse were named. That alone made me feel singled out as a Christian. Why? Because work email and internet access are used for so many other personal reasons that far outnumber anyone whose used it for religious and inspirational reasons. People mostly use email/internet for emails to family, friends, checking online bank accounts, viewing online family photos, research personal stocks and investments, chain mail, advertising boats, cars, furniture we want to sell, giving away pets, ...well, you get the picture. Some businesses don't mind their employees using their email and internet for these types of reasons, some do. It depends.

Maybe I'm just being too sensitive about the situation. I know out school system is looking out for the best interest of the students and the employees. And, as Christians, we shouldn't be misusing our employer's resources for any reason - religious or not. We need to be a step above the world in being good stewards of our employer's resources. So, on that note, I'm challenging myself, and you, to be a step above the world today. That's the risk I'm taking. And if we are unjustly accused, singled out, or persecuted, it's not us they are persecuting - Christ said it is Him!

So take that risk. Live above the world today! Walk in Christ today! Grace and Peace, friend!

It's Saturday???

It's Saturday,
Boy's Basketball tryouts from 8 to 9 a.m.
Scott's coaching so he has to be there.
Michael badly jammed his pinky so he's not going,
Brittany and Mathew are still in bed, though it's 8:13 a.m.

It's Saturday,
I multitask as I quickly sip my morning cup of coffee,
checking emails, following up on a friend's situation,
checking up on my in-laws, washing dishes, blogging,
starting housework, a load of clothes...
There's no time to lazily enjoy the morning.

It's Saturday,
Michael has a soccer game at 10:30 a.m.,
his last game of the season.
His team party right afterwards at Oops Alley.
Thank goodness a badly jammed pinky finger won't
affect his soccer performance...or will it?
I'm sure he'll find some excuse that his hurt finger will
hinder him in the game.

It's Saturday,
Brittany has JV girls basketball practice at 3 p.m.,
one of Michael's best friends has a birthday party today,
I need to go up to the church to work,
our house needs a major clean up,
our yard needs to be mowed,
and Mathew is home from college.

It's Saturday,
I was supposed to go to a county wide math teacher
conference from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today.
I just don't think I can fit it in my schedule. Nope.
Sorry. I'm all booked up! Maybe next time - NOT!
I've got to run errands and pick up meds from the
drugstore before it closes at 1 p.m.
I hope I don't forget!

It's Saturday,
what happened to those nice lazy kind of Saturdays?
You know, the one where you can take a long, lazy
sip of coffee in the morning?
The kind where you can just sit back, relax, and
enjoy your family?
Play Scrabble, Sorry, and Monopoly with the kids?
Well, I don't know where that Saturday went,
but I'm ready to find it again!
But then, when I find it, would I want it?
Would my children still be young and at home?
Or would Scott and I just be Home Alone?

Peace out, friends! I hope your day is wonderful and blessed!

Prayer Request

Today Mr. Lay and several teachers were subpoenaed to give a desposition in the ACLU lawsuit filed against the Santa Rosa County Schools and Pace High School. Please be in prayer over this lawsuit. We are good friends with many of the people named in this case. These are good, goldy people. They have acted in good faith and acted in accordance with the law. They have not taught religion in their classrooms, but simply were guest speakers at Christian clubs that met before school. Attendance at these clubs were totally voluntary.

Two additional teachers were subpoenaed today who were not named in the original suit. They were surprised and blindsided. We've been told there may be other teachers subpoenaed as well but that is hearsay at the moment (and possibly fearful talk). This is quickly becoming a witchhunt. Again, pray for them as this case seems to continue to persist. Thank you in advance for your prayers.

"Declare me innocent, O LORD, for I have acted with integrity; I have trusted in the LORD without wavering. Put me on trial Lord, and cross-examine me. Test my motives and my heart. For I am always aware of your unfailing love, and I have lived according to your truth." Psalm 26:1-3

It's A Wrap: Wed Night Kids Bible Study

The kids had an awesome Bible study tonight! We are wrapping up our 13 week study of 'Beginning the Christian Adventure.' YES, A 13 WEEK CHILDREN'S BIBLE STUDY!!! Isn't that AWESOME! I'm so proud of these kids!

Our final lessons are taking us on a Passport to the Christian Adventure, a journey through what we have learned about living the Christian life. Tonight, we made our first two stops on our Passport to Adventure. We had a lot of fun making our our own Passports to use on our Christian Adventure.

Our adventure started with the children looking up passages in the New Testament to discover places Jesus went and why he went to those places. The first stop reminded us of the importance of knowing God -of accepting Christ as our personal Savior and Lord. If your child hasn't accepted Christ as Savior, this may be a good time to follow up with them. I'll be happy to meet with them as well if you would like.

On the way to our second stop, we followed footprints which had our memory verse, John 10:10 "I have come that they may have life and have it to the full." Please help your child memorize this verse for next week. At our second stop, we were reminded that Christ must be on the throne of our hearts if we are to live the Christian Adventure.

We wrapped up our lesson tonight with our New Testament Rap Song. The kids are really starting to get the hang of it and learn the books of the New Testament. Check it out!

Our Passport to the Christian Adventure isn't over yet. We've still got four more stops to go!

Also, be sure to sign up your child for the Berryhill Manor Christmas Party on Dec 6 from 2 to 4 p.m. Sign up on table outside of room 1.

NO WEDNESDAY NIGHT CHILDREN'S ACTIVITIES ON NOVEMBER 26 (Thanksgiving week). WE WILL RESUME ON DEC 3.

Thank you for sharing your child with us!

Honoring Our Veteran's and Servicemen

Today, I wish to honor those who have served our country and those who are currently serving our country. As I type this, I am watching a newstory honoring a WWI, yes, that's not a typo, a WWI veteran. Frank Buckles, a 107 year old WWI veteran, was honored today as the world celebrates the 90th Anniversary of the end of WWI. There are only 8 surviving WWI veterans around the world. These men deserve to be honored today.

To all of you who have served our country and are currently serving, thank you. Words cannot express the deep gratitude and appreciation I have for you. Because of your courage, sacrifice, and bravery, we live in the greatest country in the world. We, the American people, owe you so much. Thank you.

I would like to now honor the veteran's in our family with some of their own war stories.

Joseph Edwin Rudd, Senior (AMM2C US NAVY WORLD WAR II), was my grandfather. He served in WWII as a pilot. He was stationed at Saufley Field at one point during the war. I have pictures of him flying over Pensacola Bay taken from another aircraft. He kept his pilot's license until the day he passed away. However, he wasn't originally supposed to be a pilot or go to flight school. He was in a group of 6 good buddies. According to my grandmother, these guys did everything together. They went through boot camp together, training together, and they put in to get stationed together. All six of them got orders to serve on the USS Indianapolis, including my grandfather. However, as the story goes, at the last minute, my grandfather got orders to go to flight school - here in Pensacola, I believe. He was the only one of the six friends whose orders were changed. All five of his friends died when the Indianapolis was sunk by a Japanese submarine toward the end of the war. After that happened, my grandmother says Granddaddy was never the same. He suffered from survivor's guilt. He felt he should have been there with his friends. He lost the five best friends he ever had on the day the Indianapolis went down. Granddaddy is buried at Barrancus National Cemetary, a honor that he so very much deserves.

Glenn Douglas Denny (Commander US Navy Vietnam) Scott was so young when his dad was sent to Vietnam. He really didn't understand why his daddy was not home. When people would ask him where his daddy was, he'd form a gun with his little chubby hand and say "Pow, pow, pow!" Mr. Denny was in charge of an APL5 ship in Danang, Vietnam. He tells stories of how they'd see hundreds of dead bodies of Viet Kong lined up in rows along the roads. He told a story of how the Viet Kong would attempt to lure American Servicemen off the main roads by stealing their watches, hoping they'd follow them down the seedy alleys of Danang to ambush and kill them. Mr. Denny had his watch stolen once. He didn't follow the guy. Mr.Denny got to go to Hawaii once for R&R during his stint in Vietnam. Scott remembers going to Hawaii with his mother to meet his dad. He remembers his dad being so tired that all he did was sleep while Scott played on the beautiful Waikiki beach. Mr. Denny has many war stories to tell and a thick photo album of pictures he took while in Vietnam - some showing just how horrific war can be.

So again, thank you to our veteran's and our servicemen and women who put their lives on the line for us. You and your families sacrifice so much. I would also like to honor other veteran's in our family - some are still with us, others have gone home before us. But our gratitude endures forever!
Bryan D. Denny, Captian USAF (Scott's brother)
Michael Faulk, Commander, US Navy; (Cathy's Uncle)
Bobby L Mathews, US Navy(deceased - Cathy's Uncle)
Otus Mathews, US Army, WWI (deceased -Cathy's Great Grandfather).

Honor our veteran's and active service men and women today!

Waiting On God's Timing

"...Saul stayed at Gilgal, and his men were trembling with fear.
Saul waited there seven days for Samuel, as Samuel had instructed him earlier,
but Samuel still didn't come. Saul realized that his troops were rapidly slipping away.
So he demanded, "Bring me the burnt offering and the peace offerings!" And Saul sacrificed the burnt offering himself."
Just as Saul was finishing with the burnt offering, Samuel arrived. Saul went out to meet and welcome him, but Samuel said, "What is this this you have done?"
Saul replied, "I saw my men scattering from me, and you didn't arrive when you said you would, and the Philistines are at Micmash ready for battle. So I said, "The Philistines are ready to march against us at Gigal, and I haven't even asked for the LORD's help!" So I felt compelled to offer the burnt offering myself before you came."
1 Samuel 13:8-12

In this passage, we see the King of Israel, Saul, with his army facing the biggest challenge they've ever faced against the Philistine army. Saul, though king, was given specific instructions by Samuel. It was imperative that Saul followed these instructions to the letter. These instructions were ultimately from God. But Saul was impatient. His men were fearful. They were going AWOL by the hundreds. Because of this, Saul's impatience lead him to disobey Samuel's instructions. Saul felt he had to do something quick to stop the massive dessertion of his army. So when Samuel didn't arrive when he said he would, Saul took matters into his own hands. He performed the sacrifices himself.

Saul's disobedience was a result of his impatience with God's perfect timing. It showed his true heart condition - a heart that was self-centered not God-centered. Saul was looking for what he thought was the quick fix. There was no trust in God, no honoring God, and no seeking God in Saul's actions. He thought he simply needed to perform the ritual. The ritual in and of itself would bring the Israelite army victory.

Like Saul, I'm so guilty of trying to take control of difficult circumstances and resolving them in my own way. I'm also guilty of not trusting God, waiting on His perfect timing. I find that when I become impatient and take matters into my own hands, my situation ends up worse off than before. I tend to look for a quick fix and sometimes don't always trust in God to resolve a situation. Saul's quick fix cost him big time. He ended up with an army of only 600 men against the enormous Philistine army! In addition, Saul lost the kingdom that day. (Read 1 Samuel 13:14-14)

You see, when we become impatient, we are tempted to disobey God. We are especially vulnerable to disobedience in difficult circumstances. When we know what God wants of us, we need to stick to His plan irregardless of the situation, consequences or how long it takes. What we may think of as a delay may be in His perfect timing. God may even delay His plans to develop in us patience, endurance, strength of character, and obedience. So, when we are faced with difficult circumstances, wait on God and his perfect timing. Trust Him and remain obedient. Don't go for that quick fix! He loves you and "...God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them." (Romans 8:28) Don't give up, friends!

PCC KIDS Sunday Wrap Up

Today in ROCK SOLID (kids church for KG through 4th Grade)
Today, the children learned the importance of humility. Today's main point was "Heros are Humble!" We studied the lesson of Jesus washing the disciple's feet (John 13:1-20) and the story of how John the Baptist Reconized Jesus as the Messiah (John 6: 22-36). We learned how no one likes to be around people who brag all of the time or look out only for themselves. These types of behavior's indicate pride, not humilty. Today's memory verse reinforced our main point, Philippians 2:3 says, "Don't be selfish; don't try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourself."

Allow me to share with you what Miss Jodi, our second service Children's Leader, shared with me today. During her lesson, she stepped backwards. When she did, she accidentally tripped over a little girl that she didn't realize was behind her. As she tells it, both she and the little girl tumbled to the ground. The first thing Jodi did was ask the child if she was okay. The first thing the little girl did was ask Miss Jodi if SHE was okay. You see, this little girl had already heard the lesson in first service, (plus she has a big ole heart for others anyway). Miss Jodi was able to use this very example with the children as to how we are to think of others as more important than ourselves.

THIS WEEK spend time in God's Word with your child. Read them these Bible passages that we studied today(look above). Talk with your child about how they apply to us in our lives. Remind them that being humble is a BIG DEAL - God wants us to be humble not prideful. Everything we have and everything we are good at is because of God, not ourselves. Remind them that one way of being humble is to not think too highly of ourselves. Another way of showing humility is to put others first. And yet another way is to focus on God (prayer, worship, reading Scripture, etc...) Sound familiar? Yep, you guessed it. Pastor Gene touched on this in his sermon today as well!

Help your child understand what pride is and how to handle it when it comes up in them or in others. Help them learn the memory verse, Philippians 2:3, and discuss with them how memorizing God's Word can help them deal with everyday situations.

The children in ROCK SOLID also used their special artistic talents today to decorate boxes that will be used to deliver Thanksgiving meal supplies to 25 families in need. Thanks to Miss Peggy, Miss Diane, and the ladies who took upon themselves to look to the needs of these families! You ladies are a wonderful living example for our lesson today!

TODAY in PK MINISTRY (3years through 5 years not in KG)
Our prek classes are just awesome! God is doing some AMAZING THINGS in this group of children. Last year at this time we were running only 4 to 8 children in the PK class. This year we're running 15 to 23 Preschoolers each Sunday during first service alone! Praise God!

We are blessed to have a FIRST CLASS team of PrK teachers and assistants. I am so thankful for each one of them. They are high caliber people who are gifted in the area of preschoolers - a gift that not everyone has. A BIG THANK YOU to our great teaching team: Miss Christy, Miss Marilyn, Mr. Charles, Miss Lorraine, Miss Richelle, and Miss Brittany. You have truly raised the bar of our PK program! A BIG THANK YOU also to our PK assistants, parents, and grandparents who help out each and every Sunday. Thank you all for plugging into such an important ministry!

God is Our Refuge

"God is our refuge and strength,
always ready to help in times of troubles.
So we will not fear when earthquakes come
and the mountains crumble into the sea.
Let the oceans roar and foam.
Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge!"
Psalms 46:1-3

God is in complete control. He always has been, He always will be. You may feel that your life is out of control, that you are totally helpless in your circumstances. Rest assured, though, God has it all together. He knows what He's doing. He knows our circumstances. He is our refuge, our shelter, our protection in times of chaos, trouble, and hardship. He gives us the strength to make it through. We can count on Him and rely on Him in both good and bad times. And no matter what happens, His Kingdom will stand forever! Remember, the world will come to an end one day...according to His perfect plan. And even then, in the midst of total destruction, when the mountains crumble into the sea, God is our refuge! Be confident in Him. Don't fear. It's all under His control. And if you are fearful, pray asking Him to help you overcome that fear and trust Him.

So, like the writer of this Psalm, let us have a quiet confidence in the Lord of Heaven! He is our eternal refuge! He is our strength!

Grace and Peace!

A Biblical Perspective on Anger

Don't sin by letting anger control you.
Think about it overnight and remain silent.
Psalm 4:4

Oh, how I need to be reminded of this on a daily basis! Not that I'm an angry person nor do I have anger management issues. But it reminds me that even those few times that I do become angry I'm at risk of sinning...against God, against others, and against myself!

Anger that is out of control can lead us to react impulsively, hurt others, and even hurt ourselves. We may never lay a finger on someone else as a result of our anger, but our words can sear so deep into the core of others. Anger causes us to say hateful, mean, and downright ugly things - things we don't mean when we are not angry. And what's more, when speaking out of anger, our words are designed to hurt others. The problem is, we often regret our angry words and actions later, after we've calmed down. But what we say in a fit of anger can never, ever be taken back. It's like squeezing a tube of toothpaste. Once the toothpaste is out, it can't go back in. However, a little toothpaste never hurt anyone. Angry words do hurt, and they hurt deeply. The hurt can even be carried around by the victim for a very long time, even years.

Don't let anger control you. Ask for God's help the next time you become angry. Count to 10 before you speak...better yet, take a long, brisk walk, and don't speak until you have calmed down. Give yourself time to cool down even if it takes all night! Last but not least..."Don't be hatin'!"

If you find yourself angry and lashing out often, you might need to ask for help in controlling your anger. Please seek professional help. You don't have to live under anger's shadow!

I'm praying for you! Grace and Peace!

WOW! Wednesday Nights with Kids are AWESOME!

WOW! God is doing some amazing things through our Wednesday night kids Bible Study. We studied Ephesians 6:10-18 last night...spiritual warfare and putting on the full armor of God. The children were so into the lesson.

Kids were asking so many questions. Their questions were well thought out and very wise for their ages. What's even more exciting is that other kids in the group began answering some of their peers' questions! The Holy Spirit was definitely 'in the houuussee!'

Yes, God is doing some amazing things in Children's ministry! He's growing a whole new harvest to "go forth and make disciples of all nations..." AMEN!

So, parents, you have a HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT. Read Ephesians 6:10-18 to your children, reminding them of what they learned. Then have them MEMORIZE Ephesians 6:10,11. This is their memory verse for the week. Children who are able to recite it back to me next Wednesday will earn a prize!

We also started preparing for our Berryhill Manor Outreach headed up by Jodi and Barbara. The outreach is on December 6 from 2 to 4 p.m. Children need to meet at Berryhill Manor no later than 1:45 p.m. Our children will help with a special Christmas Party for the residents, perform several traditional Christmas pieces, and also help pass out gifts to residents. This is a wonderful experience for our children to share the love of Christ with those in need. Make plans to join us!

Until Next Time, Grace and Peace!

Daily E-Couragement

I wanted to share with you today's "Encouraging Words Daily Encouragement for Women" from TodaysChristianWoman.com. It really reminded me the importance of speaking AND living my faith.

"David went out to meet them and said, "If you have come in peace to help me, we are friends. But if you have come to betray me to my enemies when I am innocent, then may the God of our ancestors see it and punish you."Then the Spirit came upon Amasai, the leader of the Thirty, and he said, "We are yours, David! We are on your side, son of Jesse. Peace and prosperity be with you, and success to all who help you, for your God is the one who helps you."So David let them join him, and he made them officers over his troops." 1 Chronicles 12:17–18

"Encouragement for Today
David couldn't know the true motives of the men when they approached him, so he trusted God and publicly acknowledged his faith in God right away. Amasai spoke for the other men and also acknowledged their faith in David's God. So we, too, shouldn't be afraid to acknowledge the significance of our faith in what we do. And if we want to work closely with others on an important project, we may need to know their character and that they share a living faith in God."

I have a very close friend at work whom I just love to death. Though we are close friends, we do not have the same beliefs. Despite our differences, I am not afraid to share my faith with her. And she listens. She is also able to freely share her beliefs with me as well. Though different, we are both very comfortable in sharing with each other. Our discussions are often fruitful and a blessing to me. I do believe that through our friendship, through our talks, I am witnessing for Christ. Do I pressure her? No. Am I friends with her just because I want to witness to her? No. She is a true friend, a real friend, a friend I love and care for very deeply. I know my friend, I know her character, and would love for our friendship to also share a living faith in Christ! I'm praying that through our friendship, she would discover the peace and joy that can only be found in Christ!

So, in short, share Christ in real and meaningful ways with others. Don't be afraid to share where you stand with God in the relationships you have with others in your life, whether they are believers or not...neighbors, friends, family, and coworkers. Allow God to work through you in these relationships to bring others to Christ. Pray for God to open opportunities for you to share your faith with everyone you know and in everything you do.

"in all your ways acknowledge him, ..." Proverbs 3:6

The Littlest Butterfly

This story is dedicated to my little sister in Christ, Lexi. Thank you Lexi for the butterfly and the sweet note you wrote me. I will cherish it forever...your gift really encouraged me and is so very special. You will always have a special place in my heart! So to encourage you and all of our friends at church, I wrote a little story about you. I hope it's ok with you:-)

Once upon a time, not too very long ago, there was a very small catepillar. This little catepillar, like many of her friends, was a very sweet little catepillar. But she was very small and still just a little catepillar. Her parents were beautiful butterflies who could fly anywhere they wanted to fly. They could fly way up high into the blue sky or simply flutter way down low in the grasses and the trees. They could flutter around the most beautiful of flowers. Maybe that's why her parents always smelled as beautiful as they looked. But alas, she was just a little catepillar who could only crawl about. She couldn't ever go very far and so she lived in the tiny world of a little catepillar. It was so very hard for her to even climb up a stem to just smell a flower!

Catepillar's butterfly parents loved their little catepillar so very much. In fact, they loved her so much that they taught her about the love of Jesus Christ. They taught her how He gave His life to pay for her sins. How He died on the cross, but rose from the dead on the third day. They knew that their little catepillar needed Christ, for without him, she'd always remain nothing more than a little catepillar. Catepillar's parents also took her to church every Sunday where she joined other little catepillar's in worshipping and learning about God. She went to Bible Study on Wednesday nights where she learned how she could become a new creation in Christ.

Catepillar took in everything she learned. But even more so, she saw the beauty of her parent's faith even in the most difficult of circumstances. They reassured her that she never had to worry or be scared, that God loved her so much and would always love her. And no matter what, He would be with her always. All she had to do was trust Jesus. So one day, Catepillar decided to ask Christ to be her Lord and Savior. Catepillar told her parents what she wanted to do. They were overjoyed with Catepillar's decision. So she prayed. She admitted to God that she was a sinner and asked Him to forgive her. She believed that Jesus was the Son of God, who died on the cross for her sins and rose on the third day. Then she confessed Jesus as her Lord and Savior. At that very moment, the most spectacular thing happened! Catepillar transformed into a beautiful little butterfly! She was no longer a catepillar that had to crawl about the ground, limited to the small world of a catepillar. She now had the freedom to fly like her parents! She could fly up to the sky or down to the trees! She could go from flower to flower, just as she pleased...and some even made her sneeze! She had a freedom that she never had before! She was a new creation!

Though this tale is make believe, the Truth of the story is very real. For it is through the Blood of Jesus Christ our sins can be forgiven. It is only through Jesus Christ that salvation is possible. And for those who chose Christ, they, like the catepillar who turns into a butterfly, become a brand new creation in Christ! The old nature has passed away, and a new nature has taken it's place! How complete and beautiful is the work of our God!

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new." 2 Corinthians 5:17

Britt's Sweet 16 is Today!

Happy birthday to a very special girl - our daughter Brittany turns 16 today! Yes, she was actually born on Halloween at 4:31 a.m.

Brittany has grown into quite the young woman. Not only is she beautiful but her beauty comes from her heart. I admire her sweet, loving spirit, her heartfelt laughs, her generous caring nature, and her positive outlook. I also admire her for her integrity, character, tenacity, and dedication. She's a hard worker, a go getter, and never gives up in the face of a challenge. She's also such a smart young lady. (Scott says she's just like her mamma!)

Brittany is just one of those special people who has an internal 'twinkle in her eye.' A fire within her spirit that never goes out. Something I can't quite describe, but for those who know her, you know what I'm talking about. With Brittany, everything comes from deep within, from her heart. She lives deeply. She's no drama queen. She doesn't complain, she doesn't fuss, she's always thinking of others first. She loves life and she lives it to the fullest. She loves people and enjoys socializing. She's our Social Butterfly! She loves school, her friends, and family. She loves hair, makeup, and fashion. Yes, she is a girly girl! But she also LOVES basketball and is a very aggressive player. A game without her getting hurt or hurting an opponent (accidentally) is highly unusual for Brittany. Her teammates nicknamed her "Beast" a couple of years ago. She found out this week that she made the JV Basketball team. We're so proud of her! Though she is highly competitive and aggressive on the court, she's totally opposite of that off the court. She also really loves her church and youth group! But above all of this, she loves Jesus!

Yes, our baby girl is 16 today! It's been a great 16 years and a joy to be her parents. So, to wrap up our birthday blog to our daughter, I would like to share with the rest of you a song that we sing to her, her royal highness, the Basketball Queen. It's a song that I'm sure will totally embarrass her, so please, feel free to memorize the words and sing it to her anytime:-)

BASKETBALL QUEEN (Sung to the tune of ABBA's "DANCING QUEEN")
She can play, She can drive,
having the time of her life
ooohhh
see that girl, watch that score,
she is the Basketball Queen!

Friday nights at Pace High School
The players are ready the fans are cool
mmm where they play the right game
Getting in the swing
You've come to check out the scene

She's in the back girls locker room
She's focused now, her game face on
She walks out onto the court that night
Hungry for a win
The BEAST is ON!

And when she gets the chance
She is the Basketball Queen
Quick and mean
She's only sweet sixteen!
Basketball Queen
Feel the heat from her team
Oh Yeah
She can shoot
She can drive
She's having the time of her life!
See that girl, watch that score
She is the Basketball Queen!

Fall Family Night - Shout Out of Appreciation

I just want to say a great big THANK YOU to everyone who helped with the Fall Family Fun Night. It was awesome! Everyone, especially the kids, really seemed to have a great time! It was such a neat experience and there were so many new faces! Wow, what an evening! Even though I was running around like a crazy woman, it was a blast!

The Hay Ride and the Costume Contests were a great hit. The kids loved them both! Sadly, we ran out of time and didn't get to do the pumpkin painting contest. But, that's ok. It was still a great night all in all! And how about that bonfire in our new fire pit! Oh, it was soooo waaarm! My only other regret is that I wasn't able to take pictures to post to my blog. If anyone has pictures let me know. I'd love to post some of the costumes! And if you didn't witness the costume contest, you missed out. We had some awesome costumes and even a couple of rappers who entertained us with a couple of songs. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, we had super heros (Wonder Woman, SuperGirl), we had fairies, princesses, a Southern Belle, policeman, Hippie, astronaut, Starbucks Girl, Cheerleaders, Punk Rockers, Miss Behaved, Prisoners, Cat Woman, Camo Man, Green Man, and so many others.

The winners of the costume contest won gift cards to Baskin Robbins. Our winners were as follows (no names given for safety of children - just costumes)
0 to 5 years old - Policeman
KG through 5th Grade - Southern Belle & Night Princess (Tie); Rappers Snoop Dog 15 cent were the runners up
6th through 12th Grade - CatWoman

All of the children looked just great! It was tough on the judges to decide!

Fall Family Fun Night wouldn't have been possible without some very special people. I don't even know where to start in thanking everyone. You all did so much to help and it turned out just great! Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Leaf & Scott, thanks for taking charge of the Hay Ride. That was a big job. Thanks so much to our costume contest judges - Mary, Sidney, Evelyn, Alex, Jessi! I think your job was tough, too. I know it was hard to judge with so many wonderful costumes. The kids' costumes were all so great and very creative! I think the costume contest was a hit...maybe we have a new PCC tradition?

Thanks also to Mary, Buddy, Mr. Robert, Rick, Crystal, Christy, Calvin, Paul T, Shirley, Connie, & Paul W & everyone else who helped out in all kinds of ways! I don't know who did what behind the scenes so please forgive me if I don't mention you. Just know that your hard work is greatly appreciated! (Plus I'm so tired right now - haven't been home before 8:30 p.m. the last two days so my memory ain't so hot.)

But I would be remiss if I also didn't thank my fellow PCC 'cohorts in crime' Renae, Ronnie, & Gene. You guys are awesome - always so supportive and ready to help. It's a joy and an honor to serve alongside of each of you!

Thank you, friends!

To Be Hannah

Hannah, a woman of the Old Testament, the mother of Samuel. Hannah was a woman of deep conviction, faith, and spiritual character. She was a prayer warrior and loved God. But she was also human. If you aren't familiar with the story of Hannah and how she became the mother of Samuel, give 1 Samuel Chapters 1 & 2 a good read.

You see, Hannah had no children. Her husband had two wives, and the other wife, Penninah, had many children. Not only did Penninah have children, she mocked Hannah for having none. In her desperation to have a child, Hannah made a costly promise - she asked God to give her a child, and if He did, she'd give her child back to Him.

Have you wanted something so badly, needed something so badly, that you 'cut a deal' with God? Did you promise Him something if He would just bless you with that one thing? God is not in the business of bartering. However, He does allow us to make promises to Him, to require something of us, in order to fulfill our request of Him. Perhaps it is to make us recognize the significance of His answer to our prayers, perhaps it's to grow our character, or maybe it is to grow us spiritually. Maybe He allows this so that we recognize that all we are and all we have are His to begin with. Perhaps the answer to that prayer and results of our keeping our promise is designed to bless others as much as, if not more than us. When God answered Hannah's prayer for a son, God delivered on that promise. Samuel was born. When Samuel was weaned (about 3 years old), Hannah kept her promise and delivered Samuel to Eli the priest - thus giving her son over to God. Samuel grew up to become the last judge of Israel, a prophet of God, and annointed two different men as Kings of Israel (Saul, the people's choice, and then David, God's choice). The answer to Hannah's prayer and her fulfillment of her promise worked out not just for Hannah's benefit, but for the benefit of the Nation of Israel...and, incredibly, for us today.

We must be careful in what we promise to God. He may actually take us up on it! So, when we pray, before we promise God anything, we need to make sure we will follow through on that promise no matter how hard or painful it will be for us to keep. And remember, when promising God anything, whatever you promise is already His to begin with.

In His Love,
Cathy
