Numbers 9:8
The Israelites were preparing to celebrate the first Passover after their escape from Egypt. It had been a year since they left Egypt. God had given Moses instructions on how and when to celebrate the Passover. But there were some men who were ceremonially unclean. They had been defiled because they had touched a dead body. They came to Moses asking what they should do. Should they celebrate the Passover?
There are times in our lives where we are faced with decisions that could compromise God's standards. We know the right answer when the situations are crystal clear...drug use, stealing, murder. But what about when the lines aren't so crystal clear. That's the situation these men and Moses faced. They were commanded to celebrate the Passover, but they were ceremonially unclean. Instead of a quick decision by Moses that could compromise God's standards, he sought the Lord's decision on the matter. Moses didn't give a decision on the matter until he had God's decision on it.
As a Mom, teacher, and children's pastor, my life is full of situations requiring quick decisions. Even in these quick decisions, I need God's discernment. When I pray each morning, I pray for wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. I pray for quick thinking and clarity of mind. I pray for His guidance during the day. This way, I am on prepared for situations requiring quick decisions. I often might utter a one sentence prayer as situations arise, "Lord help me to know what to do."
Seek God's guidance daily in all decisions. Ask Him to show you any way that the decision might compromise His standards. Seek Christian counsel, read His Word, and pray. Then obey and trust Him. He has your best interests in mind.
In His Love, Cathy
